EagleEye emerged from the ashes of the Soldier Borne Mission Command program—previously known as IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System)—an initiative by the U.S. Department of Defense. After technical setbacks and delays with Microsoft, the project was rebooted with Anduril leading the hardware/software development and Meta contributing XR and AI technologies.

The partnership also marks a notable reunion between Palmer Luckey and Meta, following his controversial exit after selling Oculus.
